Learn how to prepare the technical drawing, sample, dimensions, material, operating conditions and quantity when requesting a custom or equivalent seal quote.
When requesting a price and suitability assessment for a custom seal or profile, missing technical information can slow down the process. Especially when you need a section outside the standard catalog, a technically well-prepared quotation request makes it easier to identify the right product.
1. Technical Drawing or Cross-Section Photo
A dimensioned technical drawing, if available, is the most useful starting point. Without a drawing, you can share a clear photo of a straight, undeformed cross-section of the seal.
2. Key Dimensions
Key dimensions such as overall width, height, channel size and lip or bulb size should be measured with a caliper. The thickness of the sheet metal, glass or channel the profile will fit onto should also be stated.
3. Application Area
State whether the profile will be used on a machine, vehicle, cabin, electrical cabinet, caravan or another application. A photo of the installation area can help clarify the function of the section.
4. Operating Conditions
Conditions such as outdoor exposure, water, UV, oil, fuel, temperature or chemical contact are important for material selection. This information helps evaluate EPDM, nitrile, silicone, PVC or other options.
5. Required Quantity
A sample project and series production are not evaluated in the same way. Stating whether the need is one-off, monthly or an estimated annual quantity in meters or pieces is important for determining the right solution.
If You Need an Equivalent for an Existing Product
For a product with an unknown part number, a sample-based seal and profile evaluation can be carried out. For measuring, you can also use our guide How to Measure a Seal.
